Luz Borges
About
Luz Borges is a Miami native who has dedicated her career to defending and advising underprivileged individuals. She has a soft spot for the societal underdog. In representing the homeowner, be it in litigation, negotiations, or training others, her advocacy is nothing but prideful, empathetic, and zealous.
Prior to her first party practice, Ms. Borges represented criminal defendants in all aspects of litigation from inception to completion. She tried cases ranging from misdemeanors, to criminal traffic, to life felonies, as well as investigated, researched, and analyzed, legal matters with regard to sex offenders that are indefinitely civilly committed under the Florida Jimmy Ryce Act.
Ms. Borges graduated cum laude from Florida International University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice. While attending FIU, she was a Bright Futures Scholar and a recipient of the Ives Estates Community Scholarship. She began the tenure of her legal career as a paralegal with the Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office.
Ms. Borges earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida in 2003, where she volunteered at the Alachua County Public Defender’s Office and was recognized as the recipient of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund for her dedication and advocacy to social change and securing justice. Ms. Borges returned to the Miami Dade Public Defender’s office as an attorney, and continued to advocate for the indigent community, as well as volunteered in Redemption Workshops, helping ex-offenders lead law-abiding lives.
In addition, as a licensed Real Estate Sales Associate and attorney, she has provided guidance to individual investors in Residential Property Management, Landlord-Tenant, collections, General Probate and Consumer Finance matters. Most recently, Ms.Borges enhanced her career with health related legal consulting, to a Medicaid Long Term Care provider that supports the elderly community’s quality of life.
She is licensed to practice law in all of Florida as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
When she is not working for the underdog, Ms. Borges, is surrounded by family and friends. Amongst her pastimes, Ms. Borges enjoys latin music, jigsaw puzzles, movies, the beach, social gatherings and dinners.
